Reconciliations ensure all transactions have been properly recorded, and match the statement balance can be confirmed. Once the reconciliations are complete, we can move on to confirming proper reporting of business transactions. Now that the accounts are reconciled, and transactions are properly recorded, we can produce a set of financial statements which include a Profit & Loss Statement, a Balance Sheet, and General Ledgers for the period. All of this is done to ensure business owners have accurate and timely information to make better business decisions based on numbers they can trust.

We will complete and issue the financials before the end of the following month-close. For example, the January financials are guaranteed to be completed prior to the end of February.

When onboarding new clients, we go over all information we need from the business owner. Usually that includes setting up bank and credit card connections, as well as any outstanding company loans. If we cannot set up online access, we will need a copy of all statements for the accounts as mentioned above. Our standard accounting method is Cash (or Tax basis) method of accounting. However, we can cater to clients seeking accrual basis financial reporting as well. 

Cash basis reports activity based on the movement of cash in the business accounts. Accrual basis reflects business activity upon performance. 

 Example: You perform a job on December 31 of a given year, and invoice your client that day $100 for the service. On January 2 you receive the full payment from the client in your bank account. 

Under the accrual method of accounting, you would recognize the $100 of income on your December financial statement. 

Under the cash basis of accounting, the $100 of income is not recognized until January since that is when you received the payment.

We advise clients to have financials prepared based on their tax reporting method. We make this recommendation to ensure the financial information you are tracking throughout the year aligns with the information reported to the IRS on the business return.
